Rise of the Runelords
You may create and edit edit entries yourselves, or if you’re not comfortable doing the editing, please send me a private message with the content and I’ll be more than happy to get it added.
First some guidelines to keep the site working and make my job a little easier. There will be a page with templates and images for people to use to keep things looking uniform, and make your lives easier.
If you are doing some editing on the pages, I would ask that when you first load the page in the edit screen that you copy whatever the current code is to a text file, so that if you break something, you can always revert back to the original. I would hate to see someone’s work get lost by accident.
When you add something that you’ve created, include a little “Created by:” something. It can be just that text, or perhaps a little image, but something that identifies you as the author.
Last but definitely not least, I’m trying to give credit where it is due on the Acknowledgements page for images and other references we may borrow.
To get you started editing the Wiki, here are some examples of what you can do. Note that wiki pages are case sensitive, so “Wiki How-to” and “wiki how-to” would link to seperate pages. Please be mindful of this. You can edit this page to see how everything is formatted but please don’t save any changes.
Creating a new page
To create a link to a new page, just make a name and surround it with double square brackets ([[ . ]]) like so: New Page. When you save the page, the link will show up as red text meaning that it is a placeholder for a new entry. You can click on it to create the new page. Once a page is created it will appear as blue text. Feel free to add as much new content as you feel is necessary to the wiki. However, please note that since other players can edit what you post it is important note what you want edited. When you make a new page or section please leave your user name in a signature line at the end.
Linking to existing pages
To link to existing pages, use the same double square brackets. For example, here’s a link to the this page: Wiki How-to.
Linking to a page with different text
If you don’t want to use the page’s name as the link text, you can specify your own text by placing a vertical bar (|) between the wiki adress and the text you want it to read as, like so: The Text To Display.
Linking to characters and items
To link to a character or item, use the same double square brackets, but also use a colon before the brackets. The text to put in the brackets is the slug for the character. Here is an example: Shalelu Andosana
If your character has no slug, you can use the ID number, like so: Shalelu Andosana.
For PCs and NPCs in your campaign, you can just use the PC/NPC Link Lookup in the sidebar to the right. It’s quite handy!
Linking to characters and items with different text
Just like wiki links, it’s possible to link to a character or item using alternate text by using the vertical bar (|) between the link and the display text. Here’s an example: Shalelu Andosana
HTML and Textile
To style things how you want, you can use either HTML (with some restrictions) or a simple formatting language called Textile. It’s up to you, but Textile is pretty easy, while simultaneously allowing for lots of customization.
